Your roleThe successful candidate would be responsible for tissue culture of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum for other lab members of the Bernabeu group. Tasks will include:Plasmodium falciparum culture, includes thawing, freezing, expansion and keeping a tight synchronization of the parasitesmaintaining supplies (preparing and ordering reagents)preparation of cell media and buffersprocessing of blood productsmolecular biology work (e.g., RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR)when necessary, to back up on administrative work required for the research projects of the laboratorySome of these tasks might require working afterhours and on weekends. Adjustments on the working hours will be made in agreement with the line manager.Closing date: 24 April 2024Contract duration: 2 years (project related)Grading: Grade 4, 5 or 6; depending on qualifications and experience (monthly salary starting at 2.9-3.6k EUR after tax) + other paid benefitsReference number: BCN00097RelatedView all EMBL jobsSign up for job alertsView openings from partnersYou haveThe successful candidate must have:a Master’s or PhD degree in biology or related life science fieldat least 1 year experience culturing Plasmodium falciparum.Note: experience in mammalian or human cell culture will not be considered as equivalentat least 3 years of experience working in a research laboratorybackground in basic molecular biology and tissue culture techniquesstrong organization skills to keep the tissue culture room up and running, and to coordinate cultures for multiple lab membersstrong communication skills to interact with the team and internal/external contactsfluency in EnglishYou might also haveKnowledge of the Spanish language is advantageous but not required.
