The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

The Senior Mine Engineer leads and coordinates mine engineering deliverables for Côté Gold. They oversee mine budgets, surveying, drill and blast, mine design, projects and mine planning activities. They report and communicate progress and participate in various mine projects and business improvement initiatives. The Senior Mine Engineer provides technical expertise, support, coaching and training to the mine engineers and technicians, and manages mining consultants and other related stakeholders.

Actively engage in recruiting, and develop a diverse team of engineers and technicians in accordance with the organizational design strategy

Build and lead a dynamic team focused on planning, data analytics, effective communication and continuous improvement.

Create space for your team to be effective in delivering results and foster an inclusive work environment.

Ensure current and future training requirements are met, and develop clear progression paths for the team.

Mentor and coach team members to impart best practices in all mine engineering activities.

Promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching.

Lead and oversee the technical production of designs, schedules, drawings and budgets.

Lead and coordinate mine engineering activities including planning, design, surveying and drill and blast.

Coordinate inputs from Exploration, Geology, Mine Operations and Mill Operations to produce effective plans and designs.

Analyze and interpret mine plan and mine design to ensure alignment with operational objectives.

Oversee data and statistical inputs from survey results, recovery results, etc. to adjust plan accordingly.

Control and monitor the work of mining activities by checking the state of progress on the field, compliance of the plans and specifications issued and analyzing the results of completed work.

Perform technical and economic analysis of mine plans and designs.

Assist the Mine Technical Superintendent in the development of the business caseand LOM.

Evaluate trade-offs and recommend solutions.

Prepare reports and written materials related to technical recommendation and improvements to the mine plan and mine design.

Other duties as required (ex. monthly reporting, scheduling and budgeting)

Lead others in a collaborative environment to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.

Seek and implement best-in-class practices.

Harness the advantages of the automated mining system, and ensure technology is an integral part of the design and planning process.

Propose new methods to meet challenges of mine engineering.

Identify training and development opportunities for the team.

Keep abreast of trends in mine engineering and impart to Côté Gold

Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.

Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.

Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mining processes, technologies and methodologies used for the mine.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements And Nice To Haves

Post-secondary degree in Mine Engineering or a related field is required.

Registration (or eligibility to be registered) as an Engineer in Ontario (PEO).

A minimum of 10 years of related work experience, with at least 3 years of related leadership experience.

Previous experience in open pit mining is considered an asset.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to work independently and in team settings.

Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Good observational and analytical skills.

Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.

Ability to collaborate and effectively lead others in a team environment.
