About the role : Our Energy Systems business unit in SEMELA (Southern Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Latin America) is seeking for a Hydrogen Engineer.

SEMELA Hydrogen Team is growing quickly to meet the expanding demand for expert hydrogen advisory services in the region. We support utilities, regulators, developers, owners and lenders with feasibility studies, technical due diligence, conceptual design & procurement support, and independent technical advisory services for either owner, lender or offtaker/procurer/regulator.

As a technical expert you will be supporting your team with your knowledge on Hydrogen technologies for delivering technical advisory services across the SEMELA region. You will be also involved in the development of energy models for hybrid solutions including Renewables, Energy Storage Systems, Hydrogen production and Hydrogen derivatives.

Your main tasks will focus on:

  • Developing and maintaining of t hydrogen production models in Phyton.
  • Executing or managing Hydrogen related advisory projects, including feasibility studies, technology review, technical due diligence, conceptual design, technical specifications, procurement support, EPC/O&M contract review, design review, construction progress monitoring, testing and commissioning, report writing, presentations, courses, etc.
  • Extending your external network and identifying sales and market led opportunities for energy storage e.g. generating leads, quality proposals and closing deals in cooperation with the Market Area Managers for the region.
  • Analyzing new business opportunities, gathering market intelligence and ensuring distribution of knowledge among relevant colleagues.
  • Building an internal network to gain and share knowledge and opportunities.

Most of the work will be desk based, but (international) travel for site and customer visits will be required at times (estimated at 5% to 20% of your time, depending on the projects you are involved in).

This position will be based on one of our offices in Spain (Madrid, Zaragoza or Barcelona).

About you :

  • 3+ years’ experience in the (renewable) energy sector.
  • Energy systems Modelling experience and ability/experience to develop hourly dispatch models for hybrid projects including renewable energy, hydrogen production and its derivatives. In this regard, experience in modelling energy flows in plants including generation, storage and/or loads at least in hourly basis is a minimum requirement.
  • Intermediate to advanced programming skills in Python (+1 year experience in Python programming, preferably applied to renewable energy and/or green hydrogen).
  • Networking - builds good personal and professional relationships. Experience of building long-term client relationships.
  • Advanced level of English. Spanish would be a plus.
  • Good IT skills, and experienced in using MS Office suite packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Desirable qualifications include :

  • Technical expertise in Electrolysers and Electrolysis or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Project development or EPC experience with energy storage or renewables.
  • Knowledge of transmission & distribution networks and experience in load flow modelling.
  • Knowledge of renewables (wind, PV) technology & project development.
