Summary You will serve as a Lead Electronics Technician (AN/SPY-1 RADAR) in the Engineering Department, Combat System Weapons Division of FWD DEPLOYED REG MAINT CTR DET ROTA. Responsibilities You will provide technical assistance for urgent mission-degrading Casualty Reports (CASREPS) or requests for technical assistance affecting assigned subsystems, without customary references, and requiring direct communications with ships' officers. You will perform functional checkout, assessment, adjustment, and test of new or modernized shipboard systems in a systems qualifications test environment. You will participate in ordnance alterations (ORDALTs), ship alterations, and field changes which include modification of components. You will perform shipboard assessments to validate material and operational readiness of assigned systems (e.g., AEGIS AN/SPY-RADAR systems and subsystems). You will train internal personnel on methodologies for performing technical work on RADAR communication systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing expert knowledge of AN/SPY-1 RADAR and RADAR Signal Processor (SIGPRO); 2) Advising stakeholders on techniques available to test all associates Ballistic Missile Defense equipment and auxiliary support equipment; and 3) Utilizing analytical and diagnostic techniques to resolve complex problems with RADAR performance. Education No basic education requirements. Additional Information: Physical Demands Approximately 20% of the work is performed in an office setting. The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing and crawling in and around the equipment/system with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem. Standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits. Work during an in-port availability frequently includes climbing on staging, or scaffolding in an industrial environment to conduct assessments of RADAR Array surfaces. The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft Helicopter and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required. This position has been identified as one in which shift hours may be changed without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks.
