Summary You will serve as an ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN (SONAR) in the Engineering Department, Combat Systems Division of FWD DEPLOYED REG MAINT CTR DET ROTA. Responsibilities You will conduct testing and evaluation of highly complex components and designs to identify technical specifications for the development or procurement of SQQ-89A(V)15 Undersea Warfare Systems. You will troubleshoot shipboard electronic systems to isolate problems affecting operation, reliability, or safety. You will adapt methods and techniques to solve electronic design and operational problems on technical electronic and electrical systems. You will monitor the technical progress, quality and utility of electronics test data and documents results. You will oversee In-Service Engineering Activity (ISEA) functions to ensure electrical or electronic security systems remain operational. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing technical services of SONAR systems/components and test equipment (Equipment to include, but not limited to: SQQ-89A, SQQ-28, SQR-19 Tactical Towed Array Sonar (TACTAS), SQR-20 Multi-Function Towed Array (MFTA), UQN-4 Fathometer, Expendable Bathythermograph System (XBT), Sonar Dome Pressurization System (SDPS) ) as required in support of SONAR and interfaces; 2)Utilizing electrical and electronic engineering principles, and theories to identify problems and take corrective action affecting the overall system; and 3) Conducting analyses and studies for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance, safety and operation of assigned equipment/systems. Physical Demands: Approximately 20% of the work is performed in an office setting. The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing and crawling in and around the equipment/system with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem. Standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits. Occasionally rapid results are required to meet operational schedules. Work may demand rapid response under high pressure. This will require a moderate degree of creativity and innovation, since new methods of technically sound alternatives may be necessary. Incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification via command sponsored CPR training and annual refresher training during working hours. Work Environment: The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships, explosives, flammable or incendiary materials, turbines, condensers , etc.; and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line (sonar domes, tanks, etc.). The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Helicopter and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required. This position has been identified as one in which shift hours may be changed without three days advance notice for periods of less than three weeks.
