Position Overview

We are currently looking for a confident and talented Secondary Social Studies Substitute Teacher to join our team in the Secondary School. Your duties will include substituting classrooms by following assigned lesson plans, managing classroom activities, and compiling reports. Work requires knowledge and experience of social studies instruction and curriculum.

Substitute Teacher Responsibilities

  • Adhering to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.
  • Following procedures and achieving lesson goals.
  • Assigning and explaining homework.
  • Overseeing students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways and cafeteria.
  • Complying with all school regulations and policies at all times.
  • Taking attendance and documenting daily notes.
  • Ensuring the classroom and work stations are kept clean and orderly.
  • Overseeing the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
  • Compiling a report for the teacher for when they return.
  • Covering duties and electives.

School-Wide Qualifications and Attributes

  • A Bachelor's degree in a social studies discipline, preferably Psychology with appropriate teaching credentials
  • Two years of recent work experience in a similar role
  • Familiarity with recent North American teaching materials and methodologies
  • Experience with data-driven assessment tools that facilitate differentiated instruction
  • Experience working in an internationally and linguistically diverse school setting
  • Effective oral and written communication within a school community
  • Familiarity and experience with the Spanish language at the beginner/intermediate level is a plus
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be flexible and show a positive attitude to change

Salary and Benefits

  • ASB Teacher salary
  • Medical coverage and pension through the Spanish social security system (private health insurance is provided until the employee is legally a part of the Spanish labor system).
  • Sick and personal leave in accordance with the Spanish labor agreement for private schools.
  • Free three-course lunch on school and teacher work days based on the staff private agreement.
